Why Should I Be Prepared?

Each Year, California communities are hit by earthquakes, flash floods, and wildland fires. A severe disaster may overwhelm first responders; i.e., Fire Dept, Sheriff Dept and Medical Aid Services. This can leave the Kern River Valley Residents cut off from outside emergency support. Damaged roads, and disrupted communications would delay the protection and care of our families and neighbors in need. Do you know what to do? Are you prepared with the basic items needed to maintain your family for 3-5 days?

What Can I Do To Help?

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training will walk you through the basic steps to prepare for a disaster, starting with your family. You will learn basic skills required to care for your family, and then be able to respond to your neighbor's needs and then even your community in the aftermath of a natural disaster. These skills can help save and sustain lives until help arrives. Being prepared helps you to be a solution, not a victim.

Where Do I Start?

CERT training courses are being conducted on a regular basis. The goal of CERT is to train residents of the Kern River Valley in basic response skills. There are 7 modules where you will learn Disaster Preparedness, Fire Suppression, Medical Aid Operations I including Triage and treating life threatening injuries, Disaster Medical Operations II - Assessment, Treatment, and Hygiene, Light Search and Rescue, CERT Team Organization, Disaster Psychology, and Terrorism and CERT. Sessions require bout 20 hours to complete. The cost is $20.00 per participant. Teams have been formed to serve in each community here in the Kern River Valley. Join today and become part of the CERT team. You can make a difference.
